"Another TV Sports Update" by Rich

So, we're still tinkering with the album, but we've started to get some of the tracks mixed - including the epic Fire In The House, a track we worked with Stuart Price on, now mixed by knob twiddling expert Alan Moulder who's made it sound even bigger, darker and all round just fucking great!!!

While that's going on we get a call from the BBC saying they want to use a clip from another new track 'Give It Up' on tomorrows Rugby Challenge Cup Final so listen out for it - we may put a clip up later or we may not, we're still working on this one so to be sure, get loads of lager in, stand on a table with your pants round your ankles with a pint glass on your head singing Lily The Pink and tune into BBC1 at 2:05pm tomorrow (Sat 28th).

Peace.

Hear an exclusive preview of a new Hard-Fi track this weekend

Oi oi, how's tricks?

Football! football, football, bloody football... I don't know about you but I always get Post World Cup Blues, Do you know what I mean?

A new Premiership season starts at the weekend and for many this will be a relief at the return to normality, and for some (Blackpool fans) the start of something special.

Ok, so you're not ALL footie fans...BUT! There is a treat in store for anyone tuning in to watch the games on the opening day of the season...

So...

The fella who picks the music for Sky Sports overheard some of the new numbers whilst hanging out at the record label (free lunch innit) and, despite the fact they weren't even finished, got very excited - so much so that they wanted to use one of the tracks, 'Bring It On', for the opening game of the new Premiership season. If you wanna get a heads up on some of the new sounds coming out of the Cherry Lips Hit facility then tune in and listen out for it. If you're into it spread the word, maybe even tell Sky to use it all season! Do you get me?

Back in Business! "Bring It On"!
Kai.

To hear an exclusive preview of a new Hard-Fi track
Check Sky Sports 2. 12pm Saturday 14th August 2010
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City

Blog from Rich & LA Podcast

Hey,

Quick blog to let you cats know we have a new podcast up to check out from our recent trip to LA where we worked with Greg Kirsten (who with Lily Allen has just cleaned up at the Ivor Novello awards - nice one Greg).

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice there's no sign of 'Britain's Greatest Bass Player (The Sun)' - Kai couldn't make it on this trip but with the advance in modern technology (skype) it was like having him there in the room via satellite link and he played his stuff down over the wire...

I know you're all waiting to hear what's going on with the new album, well I'm not gonna lie - we've had a few things go down that have been really frustrating and meant that things have taken longer than we'd like, but currently we're hunkered down in Cherry Lips working at the soul face and we've narrowed the list of songs down to 15 or 16 of which around 10 or 12 of those are almost finished and sounding REALLY GREAT!!!

So, hold tight, hopefully there won't too much longer to wait - all of us are gagging to get back out and do some shows hopefully you all feel the same way.

Go easy, step lightly...

Rich.

Boyz-n-the-Hood

Me and the boys have recently got back from a swift recording trip to LA. Out there we were fortunate enough to work with some real cool dudes in some great studios.

We're really pleased with the results and have come home with some fresh, exciting and interesting sounding tunes.

We didn't really get any time at all to get out and about or enjoy the LA sunshine as we spent almost all of the time in windowless, air conditioned studios, but of course we did manage to squeeze in a few brief excursions to the nearby bars in West Hollywood where we were staying. We we're also lucky enough to get shown around the legendary "Sunset Sound" studios where the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Stones, The Doors and Prince recorded some of there best shit. Check out the snaps...

Also on this trip I experienced my first earthquake (or tremor technically I'm told, but earthquake sounds more exciting). It happened in the middle of the night and I considered jumping out of my second story window to get out of the building, which at the time I believed was going to collapse and crush me to death. This apparently would have been slighty extreme.

We did a bit of filming out there so look out for the podcast which will be up soon.

We're now back in the Cherry Lips Recording Facility cracking on with the rest of the album, nose to the grindstone as it were.

We'll keep you posted on progress.
Ross

A blog in my Throat...

Yo. Sorry there hasn't been much news lately, we've been keeping our heads down, staying out of trouble, staying out of the pub and really pushing to get this album finished. We're lucky enough to be working with some really cool and exciting cats from all different musical backgrounds, spending time trying out different Ideas, exploring sounds and experimenting with stuff. We're really pleased with how it's shaping up and think we've got something really fresh and interesting. To quote a great man..... "I love it when a plan comes together" Hannibal (The A Team). Talking of which, I hear Liam Neeson is cast as him in the new movie. What the fuck?

Anyway, we're off to Los Angeles at some point over the next few weeks to work with a dude on another couple of numbers. Really looking forward to it. A bit of winter sunshine....fucking sweet. I'm taking the shorts. If you're fortunate enough to live in LA or happen to be on holiday, look out for the pasty englishman tearing up the Sunset Strip. I'll be the one with sun burn. We've been trying to get hold of the Motley Cru to take us out for a few beers while we're over there but they're not returning my calls. Bastards.

Check out the latest podcast for a little studio action and a bit of a sneeky listen to a new track. You will all have to wait for the album to come out to hear my 15min guitar solo at the end of this one. Nobody is ready for it yet. Think Eddie...

Awesome

Look out as there will be a few more podcasts and a few other bits and pieces coming up very soon. We're now on twitter and putting up studio snaps and stuff.

Safe

Hello Everyone,

Been a while since the last blog I know...

You've not been hearing from us as much as we'd like you to and we are sorry about that. But, we have a reason: We've been working really hard! (And I can tell you that so far it is going well) We've been in the studio for a little while now, and we're pleased with what's going down. I know I would say that, but really we are. We think you will be too.

As soon as we can get some info, a glimpse into the studio, or a first listen you'll be the first to know. Until then this album is not going to make itself so we're going to keep at it! When you finally hear it, we promise you will not be disappointed.

We will try in a slightly sporadic and possibly nonsensical way to post bits and pieces, or tweet, as I believe it's called HERE. Get yourself an account and start following us. You may hear/see possibly life changing things here first. ; )

Meanwhile I've been dusting of a few old records looking for some drum magic to get inspired by...The rest of the tune doesn't matter.
It's all in the intros.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU-cdzJIKWc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLD23iTuSFE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=levMmesAtk4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKwKx_Umqoc

That's what I'm talking about.
I think we need a drum intro on this album!

We'll be in touch.
Steve's Youth Music Blog

Hello everyone,

Just a quick blog today about Youth Music.

A while ago, last year sometime I think, we were asked by Youth Music to take part in the Rankin Destroy project. See details here.

It was a really cool thing to do, and on Monday we were at Phillips De Pury to finally see the' Fi in all their glory at the destroy exhibition.

First things first, the whole exhibition was wicked. What a cool thing to be part of. Especially as 100% money raised from the auction will go to Youth Music. It was interesting to see what everyone had done. Trust me, none of us passed GCSE art but we try our best. I took some pictures that will not do it any justice.

Steve's Blog: "Scary Monsters Super Freaks"

Hello everyone!

I know I know...you haven't heard from us for a while. But we're holed up trying to make rock and roll history.

At least that's the plan! One of us may be briefly let out of the Cherry Lips hit facility for some Halloween DJ action this weekend, so I thought I'd write everything I know about Halloween DJ sets here for all to see just in case it comes in handy. Which I doubt very much...

First thing to think about are the Halloween get out of jail cards. A few songs that simply cannot fail. These will come in handy when you fall over your decks, unplug the mixer by mistake, or just DJ very very badly. Where I'm concerned, all are very possible. If you only had one tune in the whole box it would be <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyJbIOZjS8"Thriller. Let's face it, you could probably just start your set with it and repeat it until the gig's over. But what else? Well I'm not leaving the house without Monster Mash and Highway to Hell by AC/DC. If I'm pushed and pushed hard, I'll take along a copy of Ghostbusters in case things go really bad!

Ok so now you're prepared for the worst and can get out of jail if you need to. What to fill the box with? Let's try this for starters - How about Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, Psycho Killer by Talking Heads should be a winner, how about Black Magic Woman (the Fleetwood Mac original version if any geeks are in there). I normally try to stay away from the heavy rock in situations like this, there are just too many songs. However I'm at least going to throw in Bark at the Moon, and why the hell not, Running with the Devil!!! Hip hop? Well things are getting tricky but Nightmare on my Street by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince might just work.

If the gig is going well and everything you touch turns to dance floor gold. Why not throw a few lesser known joints in just for fun. I'd start with this, this and throw this in too! And with that you're sorted! I know there's more, but think of this as the bare bones if you like. I can't give you people everything!

Right, we're off to carve pumpkins and produce the record of the decade.

Speak soon.
Steve.

Latest Blog from Hard-fi:

As some of you may be aware by now, we are involved with Becks lager "Music inspired Art" campaign.
Over the years some of the biggest names in art and design have come up with labels for them such as Gilbert and George, Damian Hurst, Tracy Emin and Sam Taylor Wood.

We've always tried to make our sleeves relevant and say more than just our name and title and being involved with Becks "Music inspired Art" gives us the opportunity of taking that to another medium and level. So, instead of competing with these top artists and designers (we're a band after all), we decided to do something that's true to us and what we're about.

The first design is in the style of "Once Upon a Time in the West" and reads "Love Music, Hate Racism". For those who don't know about LMHR, they are an organisation that, through music, promote and celebrate cultural diversity. As a band this is something that we all think is very important and we have supported them in the past.
We thought we would take the opportunity to promote what we believe in.

From LMHR...
"Love Music Hate Racism is delighted that our slogan will be appearing this summer on millions of Becks beer bottles, courtesy of the support of Becks and Hard-Fi. This support reflects the fact that anti-racism is a very popular cause; millions of people in our society like living in a multicultural society and living, working and going out to enjoy themselves alongside people from many different backgrounds. At the same time there are racist groups on the rise who want to divide our communities, so getting out the biggest possible anti-racist message using the music that brings us together is vital today. This campaign will help to get many more people actively involved. Love Music (And Beer) Hate Racism!"

The second one was just a bit of fun and a giggle. Like the CCTV camera on the front of "Stars.." we thought we would take their image and make it ours. We think it looks pretty cool too.

Anyway, We'd better go. The courier has just arrived and we now have a studio full of lager to get through... We're gonna need a bigger fridge.

Hard-Fi

MO-HAWKS, MO-PROBLEMS...

Yo! Just wanted to let you cats know that there is a new podcast out from our adventures in Japan last month at the Nano-mugen fest.

Sorry it's taken a while but we were waiting to get some TV footage from the event sent over to include. Unfortunately the footage we took was limited to the first day since after the usual wired from jet-lag, we're in Japan excitement we all went out and got - as my nan used to say - tight...very tight...And some dumb arse (may've been me - not yet proven though) broke the camera. Hence the waiting for extra footage so you lot didn't have to sit through five minutes totally made up of shambling, half-baked, half-arsed philosophies and general drunken idiocy....There's till quite a bit of that though and for that I apologize.

We played two new numbers in the set so listen out for a couple of snippets of 'Sweat' (see the last podcast if you haven't already) and 'Killer Sounds'.

Also, at that point in the evening, in our heads, we were all definitely gonna get mohawks....luckily there were no 24-hour barbers...

Rich

LA Is My Lady...

So was wandering around the streets in the vicinity of my hotel when I noticed a plaque on the wall outside a fairly small, square, two storey building which was now masquerading as a Mexican restaurant.

As you can see in the photo the plaque shows that the building used to be 'The Doors Workshop' where the band (The Doors - obviously) used to rehearse, and recorded their last album LA Woman - here's a link to some pics of them doing just that...

http://www.karanmg.net/thedoors/gallery3.htm

LA Woman is one of my favourite Door's albums so it was quite cool to stumble across the very spot they recorded it (Sadly I'm into that kind of thing - I go studio sightseeing) Who knows maybe one day they'll turn Cherry Lips into a mexican restaurant??

Rich

NEW BLOG FROM RICH

Hello Everyone,
Hope you're all good, I'm off to LA tomorrow to hook up with a few people we might want to get involved on the next album (check me out international jet setter etc) I'm sure I'll be pining for a whiff of the aviation fuel spiked Staines air within a couple of days....

We got invited to an exhibition of unseen Beatles photos last week at the Movieum of London -

Here's Ross, Kai and I on one of the sets from Star Wars (shot at Elstree studios) not sure if it's the actual set, some of the exhibits looked a bit iffy - including one of the minis from the Italian job which looked like they'd bought some old dear's mini Mayfair and painted a couple of stripes down the side - It wasn't even red, white or blue!!

Anyway photos were cool, including shots of a Japanese tour which brought back memories of our own experiences. Having read a few diaries of bands on the road (the best being Stones Touring Party 1972) it's funny to realise how similar things are when it comes to the day to day nitty gritty, despite being 30 years ago and from bands much, much bigger than us.

Here's a list current studio faves...

Stella Street DVDs
M&S Viennese Sandwiches
Single Ladies (put a ring on it) - Beyonce
One + One - Jean Luc Goddard (features Stones in the studio recording 'Sympathy For The Devil')
Hangover Square - Patrick Hamilton
Our new table tennis table
Darts.

over.

Rich

NEW BLOG FROM ROSS

Hello everybody. Hope you are all very well. After a nice long christmas break me and the boys are now back in the cherry lips recording facility working hard on the new tunes. Sounding great by the way. We're really pleased with how the album's shaping up. Hopefully over the next few months we'll put some bits and pieces up for you to have a listen.

However it's not always nose to the grindstone down here, there are many distractions. Here are some of the other things that I like to do:

1. Plugging in my Gibson SG, turning up to 11 and pretending to be Angus Young.
2. Plugging in my Telecaster, turning up to 11 and pretending to be Keith Richards.
3. Darts. I now average around about 33. Almost good enough to compete down Ashford community centre. Although, Rich did beat me the other day.
4. Lunch. Generally takes around 3 hours and will include our daily fix of "Diagnosis Murder" and some dirty sandwiches.
5. Hand brake turns in the carpark. Once everyone from the other units has gone home there's loads of room.
6. Working on the Pub-fi repetoire. Pub-fi for those who don't know is our covers band . Recent additions include "Hounddog" and "Johnny B Goode". Look out for us at a social club in your area.

Anyway, take it easy and we'll keep you posted.

Ross
